No crow collar help pt 2

P.s. I don't really agree with the collars, however i don't have a choice to have one on him :(
My roo is a very lovely boy tho, and I'd hate to have him hurt or get rid of him
There is always a choice.

By putting this collar on him, you are already hurting him, as these collars prevent him from feeding and breathing properly, so what kind of existence do you think this is for him?

I think it would be in his best interest if you tried to find him a new home, where he can life a healthy and happy life as a rooster, crowing and all. Maybe somewhere you can visit every now and then?

I made a thread yesterday talking about the problem im having with my roosters bo crow collar. The problem is that, the collar will be tight (pinkie width of space inbetween on course) but the noise of his crow won't be any lessened AND (heres the part I'm concerned about) whenever he does his aerial alarm call, he will sort of 'cringe' like its uncomfortable (video linked this time) does anyone have any idea what i could do? I will attach pictures of how his collar is on right now

Also extra info: we are looking to move to a home with land soon. This is a temporary thing

That’s great, in the meantime a high powered fan and some earplugs should suffice. If it’s neighbors you’re referring to that have the problem, then hopefully they will put up with in until you move if you offer them some free farm fresh eggs....

I wanted to come back to this to say what we have done now. We've permanently stopped using collars after my boy nearly passed away due to them, my family kept forcing me to put collars on until I put my foot down and said that enough was enough. I said "as long as he gets to live a happy chicken life with no collar ill be happy, even if he ends up living elsewhere" so we took his collar off and none of my neighbours mind the increased volume. We've had no noise complaints and I live in a VERY urban area so im actually surprised. I even prepared to send him to an animal sanctuary just in case-

So my lesson from this. Just take the collars off, its not worth it at the end of the day and if you really love your boys, don't use them. And this is coming from someone who tried EVERYTHING; cheap collars, expensive collars, elastic, bandage wrap, velcro etc. None worked and all caused issues. My boy is actually more quiet now than he was with the collar on, only crows once in the morning in his box and once in the afternoon now, as opposed to every minute with a collar on. Less and louder is always better than more and muted.

My boy is so much happier without a collar on. I will never EVER put one on again. I hope my story inspires others to ditch the collars- its really just not worth it.

We used one of the "low"-crow collars for about a year on our Silkie roo and he did fine with it. It decreased his volume, but I hated it for him!

My boyfriend would take it off of him once or twice a month for an afternoon so he could get some relief from it, and it made me cringe when he'd yell because of our neighbors. It's worth noting here that EVERY one of our neighbors have barking dogs, but dogs are not prohibited under local ordinances like our roo is. It's a tight-wire balancing act with him.

The last time he took the roo's collar off was sometime in May or June, and he left it off. I was mortified and not happy with the decision, but I got overruled, and Primo, our roo, hasn't worn it since. We have to hush him from time to time when he gets really wound up, but so far so good after about 4-5 months with no collar...

PS: the dogs haven't let up in their incessant barking, so maybe it's a tradeoff.

Interesting reading all the warriors on the subject of cruelty. Sometimes you just have to do such things. Now what would be cruel is removing his voice box surgically like I’ve read some people do.
My Brahma rooster has been wearing a home made hoop and loop/Velcro collar for a year now. It gets adjusted every few months. Crow collar don’t prevent the rooster from crowing, they just make the crow “less” loud. You just have to be very careful and monitor regularly. It’s not as cruel as a shock collar on a dog. It’s not as cruel as nurturing a pig, or clipping a ducks flight feathers.
If you live in an urban area like I do…people will complain. I have an HOA, never had a problem. It ended up being a rooster, now deal with it. Solve the problem. If the crow collar is the best and safest and most “less” cruel way to go, then you do what you have to to take care of what is yours. Sometimes opinions are like a**h*les, everyone has one. Heck some have more than one. Some work right, others are just air trumpets for raspberry diarrhea.
I’ve heard that you could build him a darkbox. This way he won’t crow early mornings. But what do you do for the rest of the day? Roosters are roosters and they are going to make some kind of noise. But if you want to keep him, then you have to go through a lot of trials and some errors. Just be mindful of what you’re doing and monitor monitor monitor.
