No egg?

I have one hen that lays in a specific spot outside of the coop. Every morning when I let them out she runs to her spot and acts like she’s laying an egg, but there’s never an egg. Any ideas why? She’s 3 and been doing this for about four weeks.

No, not a single egg since the end of summer. Just running to her spot for about four weeks.

She might be getting ready to start laying if she isn't currently.

As far as I'm aware, they will often try to sit on the nest as they are preparing to lay. This has been true for the one of mine that I know had taken a break from laying for a bit.
