My Barred Rock was injured last week by y 5 month old puppy. She has lost a palm size amount of feathers off her back and left wing along with a good chunk of skin from her wing. My Vet said the wing will granulate over and be fine. New feathers are starting to emerge on her back now. I have kept her in a kennel inside the house, giving her antibiotics ( interesting in itself) and even took her outside one day for some sunshine while the other girls were kept away in the garden, but they could see her. They were extremely curious. My question is how long do I keep her inside. do chickens get lonely? I have a sound machine on in her room with cricket noise to emulate being outside but its still not the same.

As flock animals, chickens get lonely.
Wait till she is healed to return. What are you putting on the wound?
At a minimum I'd use betadine and an eye type triple antibiotic which melts at body temperature so it seeps deep into the wound.

Ok. I figured she would be my house chicken for a few months. I am putting on
silver sulfadiazine cream, and giving her antibiotics with a syringe twice daily. I did take her outside on a warmer day and let her peck around some while I kept the other girls locked in the garden. and we watched the Macys parade together. IMG_0010.JPG
