After I rescued the rooster I just posted about, I was offered several hens that had been part of a high school project. I took three, but I can have as many more as I want to take. They are quiet and easy going but quite shy. I would like to know if these are Faverolles or some other breed. Also, I took them with the idea of getting breakfast eggs for my family, so can anyone tell me if I 'inherited' a good breed for that purpose? TABIA!

They sort of look like leghorn pullets to me. If they are indeed that, then those are perfect for laying eggs. You should get some nice large white eggs each day.

Do you know how old they are? They look a bit like my Rhode Island White.

I'm betting Legerns (Leghorns) and they are superb layers. They can be a bit flighty, so cover the pen and be easy and quiet with them. Pretty girls!

What kind of combs do they have? It is hard to tell. They look a little "heavy" to be white leghorns, but they could be. If not leghorns, they may be white rocks (if single combed) or white wyandottes (if rose combed).

I'm no expert, but a wyandotte would be way chunkier. Mine are little fat-butts, even at 10 weeks.

I just looked at the leghorn on the index and I don't think Moe, Larry or Shemp could be that breed. The picture shows a bright red comb and the girls have a very pale pink skinned comb and I'm talking Swedish bikini team pale. The third picture I posted is color correct for the comb. I have had them for a month and I was told they were 4 months old when I got them. They have about doubled in size in that time but there have been no signs of coloration changes.

I remember leghorn feathers as being stiff. The girls are very soft and fluffy, but since they are young, I don't know if that is a reliable indicator.

The chart says the Leghorn is noisy, but the girls are anything but. I listen for Curly's crowing to find them. They are skittish and easily startled, though.

I'm going to look for more pix to validate your opinions, but I'm slightly skeptical right now.

TTFN and thanks to everyone!

They look like my California whites (leghorn x) Mine have 1 -3 feathers on each of them that have just a little grey and they are very quite and fast!
