I have just brought home 48 babies. Couple days old. We want to keep them in our barn. It’s not insulated, and gets fairly warm during the day hours. (Hot Oklahoma summers). I’m worried adding a heat lamp will roast them. Can they be without a heat lamp with so many and being in such a hot barn? Or do I need to find someplace cooler?

Average high is in the 90s, but can have a heat index of 105-110 with humidity. Nights are in the 70s. I also worry the barn may get too hot
What are your night-time lows? I suspect they will probably be fine. You can made a like cuddle box stuffed with straw for them, so they can huddle together more effectively at night if they need to.

And not too hot during the day? I was just out there now and started to sweat just sitting out there
they will be fine without a lamp for sure, I use a cuddle box with bottles of hot water inside for them to get close to if they get cold. switch them out if they get noisy and seem cool.

that heat index is a little much but i guess thats probably just hardly warmer then what it gets here at times abd i dont do anything for my chickens, just keep an eye on them, if you do get to worrying about them being too hot throw a couple frozen bottles of water in there for them to get close to and make sure they have plenty of ventilation. mist them if you realllly feel the need

Frozen water bottles! Great idea!!! I’ll try that!
