No hen submission here!!

I’m just curious about my hens and roosters behaviors. I have 12 hens and one rooster, all about 16 months old. The rooster has gotten very very very aggressive with the hens (and my husband and myself but that’s beside the point)… He chases them, grabs the back of the head, and there’s a lot of fighting before anything gets accomplished. I know that the hens are supposed to do a submissive squat but honestly mine never have. I’m not sure I even know what that looks like at this point… They don’t do it for me they don’t do it for my husband and They don’t do it for the rooster. I’m just curious as to why and is this what’s causing the Roo to be so aggressive? None of them submit to him and every interaction is a feather flying fight.

The hens are likely not submitting to him because they're tired of his aggression in general.

I agree with that based on how he acts now but it wasnt Always that way. He used to do the dance, bring them treats etc. Even back then they never did the squat. Just curious as to why. People used to tell me that I would know they were close to laying because they would start doing the submissive squat and I never saw it.

It could be a possibility that he started to be aggressive towards the hens because they wouldn't squat for him. Do you have other roosters besides him?

I have some that are only 8 weeks old. But he has been the only one since day one. He was supposed to be a hen, but you know how that goes!! Lol

Are the eight-week-olds where he can see them right now, and are any cockerels?

No I just moved them close by yesterday and they are closed up in a separate coop. He can’t see them. And I believe I have 2 cockerels

What are the breeds? I have two california whites that won't let the rooster on them no matter what he does.

If one or both of the cockerels are crowing, he may be trying to breed the hens more to show dominance.

They never let him mount?
