It’s said that chickens prefer to roost flat footed. They keep their feet warmer and don’t tend to get sores.

I’m letting people know about this stuff. I was making roosts and ramps while we were having a door installed. I covered the 2x4 and 2x6 roosts and the ramps. The ramp had the little 2x2 steps on it and I just covered everything. It’s water proof, kinda grippy, and you can disinfect it. My girls can walk up so much easier and no longer get bumble foot!!

I'm having trouble understanding how a piece of waterproof grippy material helps to prevent bumblefoot. It looks like aluminum tape, how is that grippy? Can't you disinfect a piece of wood?

Yes, you can disinfect wood. Bumblefoot is caused by injury. They roost, stand up, turn around, jump up,jump down...any tiny sliver could cause a bumble. Most people say sand the boards smooth. Which is great, but it takes no time for them to scratch it up. Bug can live in the wood, and disinfecting can dry the wood out and cause it to be rough again. I have just found this stuff has been so good for their feet.
