No one misses him

I am glad that you are no longer going to be attack. I have had several mean roosters, all of which are no longer with us. Our current rooster is a Buttercup who was suppose to be a pullet. He is a sweetheart, as soon as I realized he was a roo I started packing him around all the time. I made him realize that us people are boss and he is still so friendly. I am hatching some of eggs that are fertile because of him, but I have never seen him mate the hens. I am so glad that he was sexed wrong because otherwise I would have never got him.

I had to get rid of my bad roo because I have a 2 year old he was trying to literally kill. My hens were so much more relaxed too once he was gone.

I'm glad you work safely now! I've been considering saying bye bye to a couple of mine. I sold Sparkle yesterday to my neighbors about 10 acres away, he's got 20 hens all to himself!

Not all roosters are mean... Some are for sure bad-tempered, but some can be taught to respect you as the "flock leader" (Rooster-red has an excellent BYC page all about how to do just that).

Some roosters are awesome flock protectors but are also very sweet.

Oh, barnyard, you know you love that mean ol' roo, and you would never off him. LOL Just build him a coop with a couple of girls, and problem solved! LOL

Mine was my husbands bud to and he was adamantly against offing him. He didn't take his attacks seriously, but he'd never seen what a roo could do to someone. Welllllll, yesterday on eof his horribly spoiled and much adored bantam roos flew up and spurred him in the head slicing his ear and leaving liong talon scratched in his scalp.

He changed his mind about keeping the bog roo. As soon as he was gone todaybthe big guy met his end. I;m goign to have to be careful adn not tell him when I cook him up.

I have a white leghorn roo who seems to have the genes to be one nasty bird. I have had some success teaching him manners by holding him... like a baby. This bird has gone after hawks twice that I know of, including one time that he had a small hawk pinned in the run. This bird will come after anyone who backs down when he puffs up. He will charge across the yard after my 3 year old or anyone making loud noise. But Once you pick him up he is a sweet heart and will even close his eyes. He usually calms down for a few days after being held for 20+ minutes. However, it seems as he gets older (he's 9 months) the harder it becomes. I just want him around until my next rooster is ready to take over the flock. Im hatching Amauracanas, so hopefully they will be nicer.
