I got a coop kit as a gift and have it set up for my 4 hens. It has a closed run with a raised house which is divided into a sleeping and nesting area with a wall.. The house isn't huge and there is no roost (nor is the ceiling high enough for one). Sometimes my chickens decide to sleep o top of the coop.

I was wondering if its a problem that there is no roost. If it is, does it make sense to wall in the run and make a roost there? I free range the chickens so the run isn't necessary. I am open to suggestions!

4 hens and the dimensions are 32 wide, 22 deep, 20 high. Here is a more up to date picture. Thanks in advance for your help!!

For 4 Hens you need about 32 inches of roost space

I will sleep on it and get back to you. What kind of hens do you have?

I have 4 different hens: Buff Orpington, Black Australorp, Americana and Plymouth Barred Rock. I am thinking about using plywood to wall in the run and make it a sort of extension with roosting area and a window or two. The height of that is probably 36in. Should be an easy project. Let me know if you think that would work.

Thanks for your help and welcome---this is such an awesome resource!
