No shell egg and large mass

I have a red star older hen who a while back started laying soft shell/thin shell/no shell eggs for a while and then went into s slight molt and quit laying for a short while. This morning she laid a no shell egg along with a hard cream colored mass about 2 inches. Looked like a petrified abortion. She seems to be fine and eating well. Does anyone have any idea of what this might be? She is about 4 or 5 years old. She used to be an excellent layer presenting a large egg just about daily.

Sounds like a lash egg. They frequently occur in older, spent hens. She's probably at the end of her egg producing.

I looked up Lash egg and saw some pictures and that is exactly what it looked like Guess this is the end of her good eggs. Thanks for your quick response. I have a few older girls that are not laying well. Wish I had bought a few more chicks this spring. I bought 9 and two were roosters. Got rid of the mean one even though he was prettier than the one I kept
