NO SHELL!!!

Hey Everyone,
My 3 brown leghorns and 3 RIRs (mostly caged) started laying about 2 1/2 weeks ago and most have been small but hard like regular eggs (completely normal) but the last 2 days I have noticed some 2 instances where eggs with no shell and 1 with a paper thin shell. I have them at a 18%protein and have a good amount of oyster shells and a small amount of grit. I occasionally let them free range around the yard. Any help is appreciated.

When chickens first start laying, you will see some eggs without shells. This is normal. Just make sure they are getting enough calcium, and they should be fine. Are you feeding layer feed?

It could just be because they're new layers

They are new layers, so their bodies are still getting used to laying. The eggs should be back to normal soon.

Put them on layer feed that focuses on calcium.

New layers don’t always know how much calcium they need, so they don’t always eat enough oyster shell. Thin and soft eggs are normal to find while your birds are still working out the kinks of egg laying.

Don't panic
Apparently a lot of people here have dealt with new layers not having proper shells. It's a new thing for the chicken too, people seem to forget.
