No shell?

At night when they are roosting is a good time to pick up a chickens and examine it or give medications. I have my dorky head lamp that I wear with the red light on so that I can slip into the coop undetected, and grab them off the roost. Yes, we have all been scratched a few times, and it gets easier with practice.
Would a softie move the pelvic bones?

I just think that once the bones are mature and separated then they may be able to lay eggs. I can’t say for sure, but I had a few pullets who laid soft eggs the first time or two.

So I think it was her the pelvic bones are definitely feelable but I can’t exactly tell. I got some close up shots of her comb and the color I can see is darker.

What breed is she? That comb would be very hard to tell when she is close to laying. Here is another link with a diagram of the pelvic bone position in a pullet that is laying:

Thank you for your commenting on this.
This morning I noticed 2 no-shell eggs on the coop floor. Possibly layed form the rooosting bars which are about 3 feet off the floor.
The flock is 10 barred rock, all 19 weeks. Only 2 are laying so far and they are normal.
I wonder if 2 others tried but are just slow starts.

I put out crushed eggshell yesterday in their treat dish. They seem to have eaten it despite leaving it alone at first.
After reading this, I may continue with the crushed egg shells and try a little patience to see if the next two start developing shells.
