So I have a dumb question.. I keep reading yellow jackets are fine and dandy to give to chickens. What if they are alive? If a chicken goes after a honey bee or wasp, will they get stung? Excuse my ignorance heh

I have noticed that my hens will stay away from a yellow jacket.

Even if it is easy for them to grab it.

Sometimes, the hen will even shake her head as she passes it by . . .

My chickens will eat anything, but I've never seen then eat a wasp before. I do know that guineas eat bees and wasps etc.

My chickens eat black widow spiders, so I'd guess everything else is fair game.

I don't know how quickly wasps can sting relative to how quickly a chicken can gobble / kill it. I've seen them eat "stunned" and "grounded" wasps, but not one that landed and they ran after it.

I tink it was on that lionsgrip site that I was reaading about a guy feeding them straight out of the wasp catcher thing. He seemed convinced that they loved them . . . I was a little worried abou the accuracy of it and held off. Would love to hear from an expert though . . . why do dogs not act like they have been stung when they eat bees right out of the air?

If they coming out of the wasp catcher, then they are most likely dead or dying.

Also, if there is any kind of chemical used, avoid giving them to your chickens. But, I'm sure you knew that.
