This happend also to one of my girls last week. IDK what it could have been, but I almost wonder if its possibly the heat? I am in S. Tx & she was a barred rock. Since then I am putting water on the ground in one end of the run every day to cool off the ground, just in case!

ROck n roo... Is it hot where you are? Even if it's not do they constantly have the sun on them or can the get to shade? They don't even need it too be hot if they have the sun on them all day long and its quite powerful it can bring the weaks one down.

Hope you find out soon..

Was just going to say same thing as Michie! Could definitely be the heat and humidity!
I've lost 2 this year to heat and saved one. After that I put frozen bottled water bottles in their waterers at least once a day and more if it's really bad out. We dump the waterers every evening anyway and clorox them and refill with cool water.
This is 4th yr I've had chickens and 1st year heat has gotten to them, but I've not remembered it ever being this doggone hot...or humid before.

Sure hope you find what's causing it and I'm very sorry for your losses!!!

This year i've nearly lost one to the cold... but i saved it but it was close. But unfortunutly i was too late for the other chicken..

Thanks,

The link didn't work but I got there.

Who doesn't have clover in their field? At least here in the northwest it's as common as dandelions and grass. In fact my last brood of 50 chicks cleaned it up in their run and they are all looking good.

But I will make a thorough scan of the field and see what else is there.

Some on the list are a bit pointless to be honest. Fields covered with clover but chickens apparently know what they can and can't eat when it comes to plants so you don't often hear about them being poisoned. It could be heat stroke but they normally show signs for heat stroke..
