no tails

ok here's a stupid question. I several hens and 2 roosters that have no tails and where it should be and right above that spot there is no hair. Bald as can be. What is wrong? They are 8 months old.

Could be stress. What size coop are they in? What are you feeding? Does it look like they have been pecked at?

I measured the pen, we walked 94 steps one way then around the corner 24 more steps. on the little side the other way in 33 steps. on the big side 49 steps. They are not pecking each other.

How many chickens in all? Sounds like they are feather picking. Have you pulled up a chair and watched how they spend their time? Very revealing (and relaxing) hobby.
