Yes, but if you drag your finger down from the top of the screen, the status bar should appear. It's hidden to increase page space, but it isn't gone.

Okay, it does hide the status bar on my device, and behaves normally. Can you go to your "About Phone" page again, go to "Software information", and get a screenshot of that for me? I can try researching your device for you if I have that.

It really looks like you should be able to show the status bar by swiping from the top edge of the screen in 4.0.3, so maybe you should try that a few more times.
If it continues to not work, or just really bothers you, you may want to switch to visiting the website, which is virtually identical to the app anyway.
