No visible symptoms...what is it?

I find that price for a faecal absurd. yes you could possibly teach yourself how to do it (I have a complete manual to dignose and some articles and how to use the microscope and prepare the slides) but I doubt that will help the posters who need it done now. Call a rehabber in your area (explain that these are your PETS) and ask them to recommend an affordable vet familiar with doing bird faecals.

FIND REHABBER

Sounds like good advice! I think I will leave the microscope to the lab however, I wouldn't know what to look for. I would think there are goodies swimming with the baddies and I have no experience. Thank you all for the concern, Pearl and K.C. (Kentucky Col.) are looking much better. I honestly think I poisened them with onions. They got alot of scraps last week and I feed them a big old potato curry full of onions and onion seeds. I will treat them like two year olds now and keep the food mild!

I am not sure what potato curry is, but I believe potatoes are toxic to chickens; so maybe a double wammy? Ours are hanging in there, too...we're keeping our fingers crossed and saying our prayers! Here in our part of Ohio I know of no one who will do fecals on chickens, and I have made some inquiries, too..I believe the Chickendr has a resource to do that, but have no idea what the cost would be and have not asked him about it.

I was thinking that if you happened to have a friendly relationship with your regular small animal vet, they might do it for you anyway as a favor. They just wouldn't be able to prescribe any drugs, but since most of what we would use is available at tractor supply without a prescription, it's not a big deal. If the vet clinic didn't know you well though, I could see why they might not be comfortable. S'why I always recommend sucking up to vet staff! A box of donuts goes a long way to making forever friends among vet techs.

Otherwise, I would follow dlhunicorn's advice. Let us know what you find out!

A vet tech or rehabber would not be able to prescribe but a vet is a vet and can prescribe for any animal....doing a faecal should also be possible.

Potatoes AREN'T toxic, but the green peels can be...it was probably the onions because onions go through me too...

Some birds are fine with spicy stuff. My Slifer LOVED hot and spicy food.

I'll do some more research, if things get worse. Still holding our own here. We forked over $50.00, for the Tylan....it arrived today but I'm praying we won't need it....:|

Good, I understood that cooked potato was fine for the chickens. No raw peels. My two sickies are all better now, Pearl finally has her tail back up today, but no eggs yet. Our vet said it is the law that they have to see the animal to administer meds. We all know that if we are friends things slide, but unfortunatly these guys are all business, so sweeting them up!
