I have 2 baby Muscovy ducks between 8-9 weeks old. I've had them for about 3 weeks now. I put a pool in for them & have even tried putting them in the pond but they can't seem to get out fast enough when I put them in either one. The pool is shallow maybe 2" deep at most.
The only water I see them in is their watering bowl but even that is very rare.

Is this normal?

I'm not trying to sound like a smarty pants at all when I say this: if someone put you in a pool of cold water which you had never been in before, you'd probably run as fast as you could out.
Let them get used to it gradually.
Are you using a kiddy pool? Or bowls of water. Mine have always loved water since they were day olds.

Before I got them I'm pretty sure they had never seen water other than drinking water. They didn't come from the best of conditions.

Ok. Do you have like feed pans you could use? Full them with water to let the duckies get used to it. Mine always go straight for the water.

Mine love snap pea ends, like the part you don't eat. They also love cantaloupe and watermelon and strawberries. And tomatoes, even though tomatoes are bad for fowl. They are all the strawberries and tomatoes off our plants. Oh! And Cheerios. All my animals LOVE Cheerios. The horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, lamb, yeaaah.

Why do you say tomatoes are bad for fowl? This is the first I have ever head of that.

They are related to nightshade, which is poisonous anyway. Potatoes, avocados, and tomatoes both have toxins bad for fowl.

Hi!

Do you sit with them when you put them in the water?
My duck loved to swim when he was a baby, but as soon as walked away he would get out.

Love,
Sam
