I have 4 RIR who are 3 months old, one has grown and matured more quickly than the others and is definitely the dominant hen. She has taken to crowing very loudly and I was convinced she was a rooster and drove 2 hours to a chicken farm as the farmer said he would take her. As soon as he saw her and inspected her he said he was 90% sure she was a hen. the noise she makes is very loud and she does it in the coop in the morning around 6-7am and then occasionally during the day. She will do it about 6 times and then stop. I am worried about my neighbors and wondered if anyone had a similar experience and if she is maybe going to stop? I read that taking her away from the others for a few days may help? I also thought about maybe having her sleep in the garage on her own to manage the noise. If she doesnt stop I think i will have to give her to the farm. Anyone have any advice?

If it's a full on crow at 3 months you most likely do have a cockerel. Do you have any pictures?

Yea, pictures would help to determine if it's a cockerel. I had a hen that all of a sudden started crowing after laying for a bit, she stopped laying and hung out with the rooster. Now she just started laying again.

I have a australorp hen that at times sits in the coop or run and crows like the best rooster around over and over but she only does it once in a while bet when she does she really goes for it and she does lay eggs. She has much more pronounced head gear than the other hens do.

She is not laying yet and she can spend the whole day being totally quiet after having a few crows in the morning. The farmer I took her too looked her over thoroughly and was 90% sure she was a hen. Here is a picture of her

That bird looks like it's getting pointy saddle feathering. Plus the large comb & wattle at 12 weeks. Pretty sure you have yourself a cockerel.

These are my 3 RIR 12 week old pullets... I’m told the one is the middle is probably a different breed. They have very little comb and lil lil wattles to be seen. Maybe a close up of the tail feathers and close up of the neck feathers... I’m not good at gender but these people on here are really good at it!
