My girls are about 7-8 weeks old now and have finally moved to the coop. They are still eating from the same feeders that they started with - the ones with a bunch of holes around a round base with a quart size jar of feed screwed in the top. The waste A LOT of feed because they just stand at the feeder and use their beak to scoop it out onto the floor. Once they scoop a bunch, then they will eat from the feeder - not from the pile on the floor.
Is there a scoop proof - or scoop resistant feeder that I can switch them to as they get older?

Time to move up to a different kind of feeder. A tube feeder would be the way to go in my opinion.

But either way you go the thing to do is to raise the level of the feeder. The top of the bowl should be just a bit above the level of their backs so that they have to reach up somewhat to get at the feed.

This will reduce, but not entirely eliminate, the feed they waste. I've never found anything that can entirely eliminate feed waste, but it can be significantly reduced.

I raised the feeder and waterer up as they got older. Both are now raised 3". Can't tell about the feeder but the waterer has a lot less bedding in it now.
