Non crowing rooster is selective breeder

I have a 6 month old Black Copper Marans rooster that I've never heard crow and is breeding hens but only the black copper ones. There are RIR hens in his pen also that are squatting every time I go in but I've never seen him breed them. What could be the explanation for this?

it common for roos to pick their favorite hen(s), and leave the others alone....depends on the rooster

I find chickens are a bit snobby and prefer to hangout with their breed. I find some roosters also lazy and just over breed the submissive ones and un-impress the others...

He's pretty young though and roosters get better with age... I would kill for a good five year old roo!!
