I have a pair of oriental gamefowl (rooster + hen) and wondering do these type of chickens only lay eggs within a small window out of the year? And are we currently out of season as far as laying eggs go for these breed? I understand that the egg laying breeds that you guys all seem to own are 'GMO' (lack of a better word) to produce as much eggs as possible, but giving you guys an egg everyday while I'm sitting here eggless in months?!! BLASPHEMY!!! :barnie:p

Anyway, I'm just amazed at the differences as far as egg production goes....... just very strange. How is it so?

Originally hens laid an egg every day or every other day until she had a clutch, than she set and hatched and raised her chicks. Often there was time for a hen to do so multiple times a year. Many breeds still do this. Many bantam breeds and games to name a few. You should still get eggs than your hen should go broody.

Older hens will often quit laying completely. How old is your hen. Not enough protein in the diet can affect egg laying. What are you feeding?

You don't have your location listed so I don't know where in the world you are at, which can affect production. Hens often quit laying in the winter season under decreasing light. Egg production is affected by light, so messing with available light can affect production as well.

Increased production has been selectively bred for over generations. Not that difficult to do, no genetic modifications made, just selective breeding.
