Hello everyone! I just joined this forum and I figured I'd introduce myself here. I currently live in Sacramento, CA, and I am brand new to keeping chickens. My wife, four kids, and I got ourselves a straight run of six Delaware chicks yesterday and we are totally excited to start raising them and making them a part of our house. Here are a couple pics of our chicks in their improvised brooder. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

please secure the top on your brooder, so it doesn't come down and smash anyone. It won't be long before the adventurous ones fly on and sit on the edges.

Drumstick Diva, the lid is already secured. The whole thing is in a closet and I used some parachute cord to tie the lid to one of the mounting brackets for the hanger rod (you can see the cord in the photo if you look closely enough). Also, the heat lamp is hanging directly from the rod by some parachute cord with one of those barrel clasps like you see on drawstrings so that adjusting the lamp's height is really easy.
