We picked up two cuckoo marans and two buff orpingtons yesterday. We ordered four Ameraucanas, too. This morning, I noticed the marans seemed to be having balance problems. They weren't standing up to scratch at the pine shavings. Instead, they were lying on their sides and scratching around. I got one out of the pen, and she seemed to be able to walk and run just fine.
Then I started to think that this is the first time in their lives that they've been able to wallow on something other than chicken poop and hardware cloth, and they're just doing what all chickens to. I've seen this behavior in my adult hens.
