So it's been a very "all over the place" kinda late winter and early spring, weather wise. Freezing cold, then beautiful and warm, then raining profusely, then snowing profusely. We've also recently lost our rooster to a fox, so the girls have been spending more time inside than in previous years. They only go outside when myself, my hubby or my dog are out (about 3-7 hrs a day). My one ameraucana girl is breathing with her mouth open occasionally and only seems to when laying down. My coop has pellet bedding on the concrete part and sand in the coop area, where they sleep. We've tried a few surfaces in the coop area but sand has so far kept the water away from the girls the best. The only problem is these two things are dusty. I water them down but not too much because it's cold.
I'm attaching a video of one of my golden laced wyandottes, Blanche and the ameraucana, Lucy (the dark brown lady with the white neck). Blanche did it a couple of times too.
Lucy seems absolutely normal and breathes normal when walking around and standing up. I'm just wondering if this is a normal chicken behaviour that I've just never paid attention to before? Or should I keep my eye on it?
