It varies I think. I have one hen that always lays porous eggs no matter what, and a few hens that used to pay porous eggs, but the shells got thicker when I put them on Purina Layena crumbles. I don't think you wil have any deaths from it, but that's what it is.That’s so discouraging.. almost all 90 of my eggs look like this. Does it have anything to do with the health or diet of the hen?
Candle from the fat end, so you can see air cell.Got these eggs shipped from Georgia to Wisconsin. Is this normal looking..? Really scared my eggs are goners.![]()
I let them settle and candled again (even though ive been told 100 times not to, I want to know which eggs are gonna be iffy.) 46 out of 89 have detached air cells... I don’t have a turner in my incubator so I placed them all fat side up in egg cartons, in hopes that the air cells will reattach.Candle from the fat end, so you can see air cell.
More of a concern with shipped eggs(maybe you already know that).
Porosity is a crap shoot have had them develop and hatch just fine... and not.

With shipped eggs and bad air cells it's generally better to incubate and hatch thrm upright.I’ve read it’s not good to incubate eggs in egg cartons. But hopefully someone with more experience and knowledge can chime in.
