So this is my THIRD hen that passed a lash egg in less than a year. The first 2 hens passed away within a couple months after I saw the lash egg. The current hen was acting dumpy for a day, and when I let them out in the morning she was trying to EAT her large lash egg 🤢. I removed it and she seemed to be acting normal that day. This morning she laid what appears to be a normal egg. Is it OK to eat it?? The other 2 never laid again after the lash egg. I do want to find out if this is contagious, because it seems to be way too frequent to see these in my flock.

Hard to say if whatever caused the infection is contagious without labs to confirm just what organism caused the infection.
Not sure I'd eat that 'good' egg.
Did the 3 birds all come from the same place?
Do you have other birds?

Yes this flock is 2 years old now and I got them as 1 day olds from a local hatchery (Townline). I originally had 10, down to 6 now (one was a rooster), it’s the Isa Browns that seem to be getting the Salpingitis 😟. I will never raise that breed again knowing what I know now. They are wonderful layers but too short of a life span.
