Hi all! My chicken went from laying zero eggs to laying daily. Is it normal for a chicken to lay an egg every day? And if so how long does it last? I hope forever, because now that's she's used to laying she does it quietly and quickly.

yep thats normal and can last from 6 months to 18 months... it really varies

yes, I have a California White that has laid all but 2 days for over 10 weeks....yeah!
My only white egg layer, so its easy to see how many I get from her.

The "average" breed of chicken lays 250 eggs per year, so that is a whole bunch of time off from 365 days in a year. An outstanding layer may as many as 300 it's pullet year. So, no, they cannot lay "every day" but the breeds bred for top laying sure do crank them out consistently. Nice, isn't it?
