2 roosters @ 9 months old, 19 hens*x'ing fingers* @ 3 months old.....

Kept the best two roosters as best I could decide from many sources of info, here and elsewhere...ty very much. They aren't letting the girls out to free range. Not sure what the thinking would be here, it seems they're using mating as a method of terrorism. The coop itself is inside the barn, if the hens leave the coop or the barn they're being targeted....and if they stay in the coop(for the most part, not always) they are being left alone. I'm happy with the roosters' demeanor other than that. Is this a Rooster boot camp, will they ease up as things progress or do I need to intervene in some way? If intervention is viable, how? Seems like if I step in they just head for another hen...ugh. My plan of action after frustrating myself has been to just let them sort it out. Lock up both roos?...any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just another chicken newbie,
Thanks in advance

My thinking is your roosters are too mature for your young pullets. I'd lock them up, separate them or limit their being around the pullets til the girls are at point of lay.

I'm sure the pullets are terrified.

your roosters are too mature to be with your young pullets they want something your preteen pullets shouldn't be doing yet. you need to separate them from the roosters till they start laying.

I`m gonna agree, but put it a different way. Nine month old roosters are like teenage boys. Their testosterone is way out of control at that age. Mature cocks, say a year and a half, would not be near the aggressors on the young ladies as your cockerals. Pen the two of them seperately for about 2 more months and the pullets will be more receptive.........Pop
