just a quick question i've always wanted to know what would happen if you bred a LF to a bantam? would they be medium sized? would there be a greater risk with hatching?

Small...med.... or large. Depend on who's genes the chick gets. I haven't had any problems hatching them.

Good Morning everyone. Just stopped in to give a quick update. We gave Susan a mouthful of the nutri-drench stuff (boy DH thought it smelled like licorice and I thought it stunk...LOL). Today they will get some yogurt/flax seed/oatmeal mixture since they've been on the Wazine now for 3 days. They didn't drink much in those 3 days...rather felt bad getting rid of all that medicated water each day! She still has her tail down, but aside from that, she's "normal" and keeping up with everyone. I do hope she perks back up here, it's so sad seeing her "under the weather".

so sorry for your loss. I know no words can adequately comfort you with this loss, but do know we are all thinking of you!!
I do have a roo...he's the poor fellow that does not get any "action" but he is not buff. He is black lavender split, so don't know if that would work for you, but he's a beautiful orpington all the same!! We're planning on getting him a few girls from BHep but I am sure the other boys wouldn't mind if they had more girls to share and one less roo to compete with!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Bantams & LF intermix all the time in lots of flocks, there are no hatching risks, chicks will only grow as large as their egg will allow them to grow. (in my experience)

Glad to hear Susan is still hanging in there Ruthann, I know what you mean about wasting the wazine laced water, I'm doing it now too. 1 more day to go..

I had a date with hubby last night, it was WONDERFUL. We haven't gotten to go out together since our Anniversary, that was Feb. Our date wasn't even going out... we got take-out and a movie and stayed in while DD got to stay at a friends house for a sleep over. So this was our first going out, dress up, DATE... since probably 2008.

I miss you all.... keeping busy here... bake bake bake... but I will always drop in to say hello when I need a breather.

(If anyone needs anything just PM me.... you know I still have 10% for the BYC people.... )

I live between the Farmers Market and downtown Raleigh. I "inherited" a free range chicken (American Game Hen) from my Latino neighbors. I named her "Diana" (Drumstick is her nickname). She frequents my backyard and is very friendly to me (I feed her). My friends are urging me to build some kind of shelter for her for the winter. She is so feral -- she roosts in the bush by my front door -- that I don't think she would use anything that I build for her. She is VERY cage-averse. Will she survive the winter on her own? Anyone got any ideas? Help! Eric

She should be fine, just make sure she has water and food. Watch out to things that might want to eat her. I had this happen two winters ago with 3 chickens that showed up. I couldnt keep them in a pen so that no animals would eat them because they belonged to the a** of a neighbor. But they roosted in my tree and I fed them so they wouldnt die. Good luck and
