Finally have a quick chance to sit down today. Been baking up a storm today. Testing out all my new recipes before the mad 48hr baking days right before Christmas....can't give people goodies that aren't FRESH.

Today's List:
Dark Chocolate/Rasberry cakeballs
PB thumbprint cookies with kisses
Buckeyes....my version
PB pie

Still to do:
Choc chip cookies
Sugar cookies

Now to find a home for all these test cookies. LOL

How about Josephine and Catherine? An empress and a czarina (France and Russia). I also like Elizabeth I. She was the most important woman in the world in her lifetime. Then you have Victoria. She was called Empress of India in addition to her British titles.

Need any more royal names? I'm the history nut to ask!

Btw, those are beautiful girls. Large fowl or bantam?

I am so heart broken today.

I have lost my beautiful light Brahma hen, to what I believe poison.

Few days ago my husband treated with pesticide for termites and bugs around the house, and yesterday I let all my girls running loose in the yard while I was outside working. I saw some of my hens (including the light Brahma) next to the house searching ( even thou they had so much yard to look for bugs) and I didn't think it was a big deal. I was thinking it was more than three days since he sprayed, so it should be ok.
How could I be so foolish!?

My beautiful light Brahma bantam was one of my biggest eater. Her and the buff Brahma were always the first one’s to the food and the last one’s to go to bed.
After I put them back in their run, I noticed my light Brahma was drinking a lot of water and by evening her crop was full of water. This morning she give me a soft shell egg, and spent all day next to the water. I spent the last few hours with her and she died in my arms.

I am so upset with my self !

. How could I be so naive and let them eat bugs in an area that was treated with pesticide?!

. This was a beautiful, young, fat, and healthy chicken with a beautiful pink color on her face, who only two days ago was biting my fingers for treats.

I can accept better when a chicken is lost to predators, or sickness, and we can’t do much to change that, but it makes me so mad that this one was lost to human mistake (my mistake) that could have been easily avoided, if I would only had a better judgment. I have never give her a name, but my little girl use to call her Snow White.

For the next few days this is going to be a heavy load on my heart. Friday is my birthday, and we are supposed to go out for dinner and movie, but now all I want to do is to spend the evenings with my chickens, hug them and kiss them and apologies for not being more careful.
Why do we get so attached to chickens that can be so fragile?
I'll miss you Snow White
