Red golden pheasants!!! Don't ever get any!!!!!!! Spent all day fixing their pen that the squirrels ate through. This was bad enough, but every 5 mins I had to spend an hour to catch one who got out! And I still gotta wrap gifts tonight and help mama make mincemeat.

Anyone got female red golden pheasants for sale?? Or want to trade your females for some of my males. (unrelated to your stock)

Update on hatch.......... Out of 14 eggs, we have had 10 hatch, last one is still in lockdown.....

On the sad side, we came home yesterday, had one that was a very lothagic chick, didn't want to get up and run around with all the others like it had been doing. I wonder if it had gotten injured by the others in the madness they have. Labored breathing and just wanting to lie down... Well, I made the decision (a hard one) to help the little one on the way to the roost in the sky... I know they all can't survive, but it doesn't make it any easier...

Okay everyone...I have a chicken question for you.

Do I need to do anything (or worry) about my rooster's fighting? I just noticed today that the low man (Cottontail, my Black Orp) was being attacked by the Alpha (Jeremy, BO). They fought on and off for about 5-10 minutes and it was quite a sight. Cottontail would run away from the fight only to have Jeremy start "squawking" (goading perhaps) at him, then their neck feathers all puffed out and they charged one another!! Is this just because of the weather being all wacked out or is this normal? Do I need to separate them? Also...my two new girls have not come out of the coop since being out the first day. Do I need to encourage them outside or are they okay? They haven't even been in the run!! I just want to make sure my girls are getting the best that I can give them!

On a fun note...anyone giving their chickens a special treat for Christmas? If so, what do you plan to give them?? I need some fun ideas!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas!! We are waiting on news from my parents to see if they are coming for a visit or not...

I guess you can say they like last minute plans. Just hope I have food for them!!

If they are a no show, then we plan on having a very VERY low key Christmas...just the 3.5 of us (unless you count all 13 chickens and our one cat

).
