Beleive it or not he was a stray. He lived two doors down. Wouldn't stay in the coop. We had another stray show up last Feb looked like a Welsummer. His comb was frost bitten and he didn't crow. We thought it was a hen. Named it Gretta. In April after a few strawberry feedings, he started to crow and his comb and wattles were standing on top his head and bright red. Name changed to Grissom. They were best buddies. During the storm Irene, Henry was missing. Grissom crowed for two days. On the second day late in the evening, Grissom found Henry and attacked him. His comb was bieeding I thought he was dead. I had to keep them separate from each other. Henry wouldn't defend himself. My other half ask me if I had to choose, which one did I want to keep? Of course I wanted them both,

chose Henry for being a heritage breed and on the threatened list. As luck has it his owner happen to come over with another rooster thinking it was ours and took Grissom back home. He said the EE hens caused the upset. I miss Grissom but I can hear his crow everyday and see him foraging from time to time.

Looking at the chicks close im not sure what they ARE!

Looks like reds, but im not sure what the black and white/yellows are.

Ive got them in 2 big plastic water troughs right now in a heated room in the barn with a heat lamp on both of them, what do you guys use? Any suggestions on what these are?

im pretty sure thers 3 breeds in here. i got one box of 10 chicks but cant rember what breed, ill have to look on the box. :p theres about 80-100 of the other 2 breeds.
I see Reds, either production reds or RIR and then I see Barred rocks (the black and yellow ones with the barred wings) the few that look solid bodied but funny faces I have no idea what they are.

My sliver roo is not the top dog in his pen but that will change once I get the pens straighten out. But I did manage to find him two sliver hens and I have some golden hens as well. Sorry about Grissom. Atleast he's safe.

What breed of nanny goat did you get and how much did you pay for her (if you don't mind sharing)? Do you have a picture? We are wanting a doe to add to our little herd. We are looking for nigerain dwarf, pygmy, or a cross of the two. I would be ok with a fainter too, but I don't think I have DH convinced on that yet. IF the WCA wasn't so far away I could try convincing DH to go check it out one weekend to look at what goats come through. Not really looking to add mor chickens right now. I wouldn't mind getting rid of one of our roos and adding another hen or 2 but DH isn't interested in more chickens, he actually isn't sure about us keeping the chickens right now. Hopefully that will change when they actually start laying!

I had fun at the auction today, i picked up 8 of those big orange chickens, i believe they were gold starts, they had there beaks snipped to,

I also got 4 turken hens,
A bunch of roosters
3 turken chicks
4- month old barred rocks,
A nice pair of amercaunas ( they were the ones in the wire wood cage)

I also picked up A nanny goat about 2 months old ish,
and i got about 100 rhode island reds and barred rock chicks from a friend.

I got the in the split between 2 cow troughs with heat lamps.
I got a beautifull silver partridge silkie rooster.

If anyone ever wants to meet up at the WCA, im the guy that had the air force pattern camo pants on working behind the line today, my wife was the cute short haired blonde girl that works behind the line as well.

My buyers number there is 819.

If you see something you like and hear that i bought it let me know, ill be glad to let you have them for what i paid, unless there something my wife really wants :p

I didnt get the goat from an auction, i got it from a friend of mine who buys and sells livestock, if you let me know what your looking for and about what age, i can usually find about any kind of bigger animals.

I got the wife 2 quarter horses, one was 4 and one is 4.5 years old. I picked them both up for 230 bucks each. I can usually get good deals on animals.

they had one billy at the sale today, i think he went for 30 bucks i bid up to 15 on him, but he looked sick, and he was a resale from another auction i believe, because he had the auction sticker goo on him.

im not sure what breed the nanny i got is, shes very young, and im not to keen on goats, ill take some pics of her during the daylight, i believe i paid 40 bucks for her, but only because my wife wanted a buddy for her baby goat, i cant even rember what he is, hes some kinda small dairy goat, we got him from the auction, and im pretty sure they came from a dairy.

Did anyone get any of my wifes cake balls she was giving away at the auction? They were Delicious!

RF, most prefer full sun... I have my irises in part shade and they're just fine though! :p

Before I forget, here is some shots of my Iris... I have way more then this, these pictures are from 2 years ago before they all bloomed:

Now looking at it, looks like you'll get some of the red/burgendy/mauve and yellow then anything else.

We have 2 pygmy/nigerian dwarf wethers that are brothers that we got from my dad. My dad has pygmies and nigerians he raises. We have been looking when he has kids born to see if anything he has catches our eye and I am on CL daily browsing the ads for something we like. We want to spend under $100 and don't want to go too far to get a new goat. We were wanting to get a bred doe so my kids could have the experience of a goat birth and we could have babies around here, but so far nothing fits for us. I am now considering getting a doe kid (bottle fed or right off mom) and raising it up so it will be friendly. We are looking right now but not in a hurry to buy at this moment because we just had some financial things come up that cut into our "new goat fund"! Plus we want to get some more fencing up too. Our only stipulation is we don't want a black doe, since our 2 wethers are black!
Here is a picture of our 2 wethers. BlackJack and Bob. BlackJack is the one with the blue halter on.

First... let me send out a big "HELLO" to all the newbies....

I had an awesome time at WCA... it was good to see my fellow BYCer's.
I hope everyone got a great deal or made a nice profit off of what they sold. (I was lucky... I did both today.)

I will post some pics of my newest additions tomorrow.
