I am noticing that they are very slow to start getting any feathering even on the wing tips, I am assuming that is the English blood? If I was doing a normal orp feather sexing at this age I would say they were all cockerels, but knowing they are English and not American that does not apply in this case (I hope).

Hey Moores6 I love the look of your coop. I like using the dog kennel for the run. I am glad to see it, because today I am picking one up off craigslist. No coop yet...hubby has two to build...lol.

I need some insight from others on my brooder vs ecoglow 50. I got it yesterday in the mail and it is BIG. I am wondering if I should return it and get the smaller one. If I do that it only holds 20 chicks and I have 26 coming, so that is why I went big. So I took some pictures of my brooder with the ecoglow, feeder, and waterer to show different set up ideas with the big ecoglow and wanted to know if that is going to be too cramped the first few weeks for 26 chicks. In the last picture you will see off to the right I have another brooder that we are going to connect the two when they get bigger so there will be more room when we move them for inside to the shed with the ecoglow.

I would like to know 1) should I return and get the smaller one. 2) If not which set up should I use (see picture one, two, three)? So let me know what you all think and any ideas, any help. Thanks

Return it, save your $$ (I'm sure you will find somewhere else chicken related to use that $

) and use clamp lamps. They can be used much longer as the chicks grow to juvi's. You can buy clamp lamps at Walmart for $6 and a pack of bulbs for a couple bucks.

I have a ecoglow 50 it is big but they play on top of it. I would keep it and just connect the two brooder earlier. Mine are now 2 and 3 weeks and they dont use it much. LOL it has been so warm. I had no pasty butt (even thought 27 of the chicks came in the mail). I did loose 2 but I think it was from the shipping stress. And the 6 I got from TSC are doing great, even if it looks like they are all boys.

I would go with the long feeder and two waters. that way no one gets left out. :)
