PLEASE!PLEASE!!!! SOMEONE HELP ME HELP MY CHICK!!!!

Our hatchery batch of chicks arrived today and one has a splayed let. It can bend but it holds it outwards. How do I fix this with the bandaid. I need step by step instructions or a video.

Also one has a bloody head but very alert and on the go. I tried washing it off with warm water, but did not work. How can I get it off. I dont want the other chickens to see the red.

Thanks for any help

if the leg is FORWARD and sticking up outward in front of the body in the air not on the ground, it is most likely not splay leg and is more likely a dislocated or misformed hip joint, in which case there is no saving the chick, and my ONLY advice for the best of the baby is to cull. Try using the Splay leg corrective measure for a day, if that leg doesn't sit at all normal and still pulls forward causing the baby to be unable to stand, it is not splay leg.

Splay leg the legs go outward on either side or forward and backward. but usually the feet/legs are touching the ground its caused by weak leg muscles and/or a combination of that with slick surface.

soapy water for the bloody head. if theres an actual injury there then you may want to spray with blu-kote or seperate the chick from the others until it scabs over.

Thanks for the links. I am going to try the bandaid. I have been watching the chick and it gets around well, but when it stands the one leg goes out to the side, but I witness it running like all the others, so I dont think it is too bad.

Off to try to wash the one with the red. I will have to see if I see injury. I already took care of 2 pasty butts so I got to keep an eye on them.

Rest of the day I have been trying to figure out what chick is what. They sent us 4 extras.

Hi all,
I am doing a presentation tomorrow on domestic chickens and my partner just informed me that we need a poster...

So anyway, If you guys have any pictures you would be willing to let me print out and show the Third Graders I'd be so grateful. I'm specifically looking for pics of poultry shows, and the inside setup of your coop. Pics of all the eggs you collect would be really cool too, especially if you have EEs. Sorry this is last minute but I hate to just grab pics without permission, Google included. Thanks so much!

^Our eggs in a basket. EEs are the green eggs, brown ones are our RIRs. We get 5-6 daily from 6 hens. This was 2 days worth of eggs.

Dozen in a carton ready to go. I had to pattern them! We have the 2 RIRs that lay the brown eggs and 4 EE that lay colored eggs. Mostly green but one lays a very light blue egg.

Thanks! I'm getting some EEs and I have the RIRs already so I just know I'll end up with a carton like that

We had a stray dog over the weekend. I think she'd been dumped. She was a fat mix, with a collar indentation on her neck...but no collar. Her optimum weight was probably around forty pounds, but I'll bet she weighed closer to 60! She bedded down just outside the gate, and every time we went through or walked near she tried to explain to us that she Belonged inside the fence. I talked to her, and would have given her a try inside until Monday when I could call Animal Control, but she growled at Jake when he also came near me. That cut her chances right out. I'm hoping she had just slipped her collar and would find her way home, but usually when folk dump their dogs out here they take the collars off. I wish I'd had a pen to put her in until Monday...but they're all full of chickens!

Homegrown lamb stew with barley for supper. Seemed like the weather was just right for stew!
