So sorry about your runners. did a predator get them?

Worse. I'm embarrassed to say that they escaped the yard and went out into the street. It seems they were in the throes of passion and were hit. :(

As promised, pics of my redneck feeder and waterer. My reason for "rednecking it" besides the recycling aspect of reusing things that would have been tossed, is my TSC is always out of the chick waterers.

feeder - made from a SoBe bottle and a Parmesan cheese flakes container. I cut 3 evenly spaced holes about the size of a nickle around the bottom of the SoBe bottle and glued it down with aquarium safe sealent. Fills from the top.

waterer - made from a tall square ZipLock container and a water bottle. In 2 sides (so I can put it in a corner) I cut 2 rectangle windows out (one per side) at a height the chicks can easily get into to drink, but not big enough they can climb in, I then made a hole in the lid the size of the water bottle to keep the water bottle from being knocked over and keep flighty little buggers from getting in, then I cut a hole in the bottom of the water bottle under the height of the window. This one fills from the bottom hole on the water bottle, quickly turn over into the ZipLock container and then put lid over bottle.

and we bought a futon for the girls to sleep on this last weekend, and this was in it, it will work great in my 1st brooder for new born chicks!! It is corrugated cardboard with the wavy side still showing!! I will be cutting it to size, placing it in wavy side up and covering with a few paper towels

Wow, great ideas! I might use these.... Now to get another brooder... ;)

I really like both, and I especially like when you said you bought a futon for your girls to sleep on [I will not tell my girls about this] they have to sleep on the roost in the coop.

Hi i'm relatively new here. Been lurking for a while now on the BYC site, just found this forum. I am from the beautiful mountains of western NC. I just got some chicks given to me, posted some picks to the guess that breed forum, will get some more current and post here later. Not sure what I have but they are cute...well not really they are feathering and look kinda moth eaten right now. My grandson came in and said Grammie have your chicks got the mange? LOL
