its happened again, a couple months ago a pack of hound dogs killed many of mine and my neighbors chickens, they even attacked their newborn foal! Well animal control has been catching them with live traps and my neighbor is shooting any that come on his property. I just haven't been able to shoot them, I'm to softhearted. Well tonight my neighbor called to tell me that the dogs killed her potbelly and 3 of the piglets, and tore into an outdoor brooder and 46 chicks are gone!

! So I was just asleep when I heard a ton of noise and ran to the barn to find 3 wild mutts getting their A**es whooped

by my boxer pyranees mix, who has started sleeping in the barn! Hope that teaches them

Boxer Pyranees Mix? WOW, two of my favorite dogs! If I were those hounds, your place would now be an official NO FLY ZONE!

We've had trouble here with packs of dogs too - although none that have bothered our chickens yet. We had huge dog in our pasture day before yesterday. He got in under the electric fence, and we think it zapped him on the way in because then we couldn't get him back out through the gate...he wouldn't go anywhere NEAR the fence! LOL The animal control guy said they think a lot of people are just letting their dogs run wild (basically abandoning them), because they can't afford to take care of them anymore.

Thanks for the condolences for Ms Bossy. They help.

My own condolences for dog attack victims! I second/third/fourth/fifth the thoughts on keeping those bite wounds open and using antibiotics. I also second the idea on injectable antibiotics. Puncture woulds, particularly bites, have a tendency to abcess. Perhaps caring for your goats wounds will end up making her easier to handle in the long run.

NH...enjoy the strawberry picking!

CoopScoop...I hope today is a great day for you, and whatever weirdness plagued you yesterday is gone.

Beth, I need to make arrangements with you to pick up the BBRs, which I have been forgetting to do! I'm going to Georgia tomorrow, but will return tomorrow night.

I was planning to got the the flock swap in Fay. Sat the 26th (think that is the date...gotta double check) Anyway... I can bring them. I figured you (your DH) was busy building more pens.

OMG, so sorry to hear, this is sad for the dogs that have been left to fend for themselves as well as for the victims of the dogs. Gotta love those pyrenees, and with the tenacity of a boxer...great mix! I think we have spoken before about he buffs, you are in Lake Lure area correct? If I don't have any by then, will try to get up with you, but you are a long way from me, I am in Bryson City, 60 miles west of Asheville, near Cherokee, Hope your wild dog problem is resolved soon, sorry for your neighbors pigs

Quote: Beth, I plan on coming, too, so that will be perfect! Thanks! I'm bringing my Mixed Up Orpingtons, as I've decided not to play with them. I can't make enough space for playing. Some pretty birds and some weird ones, from letting the buffs, blacks, blues, splash and lavender run together. I figure people who like the Orpington personality but want interesting colors would like them.

Hey Beth what kind of chicks are you bringing?
Sharon
P.S. the date is correct :)

I am bringing:
Silver Seabrights
Porcelain D'Uccles
EEs
Little Naked Necks
Blue Orps
Silkies
Guinea keets
Ringnecks
Swedish Flowers

Ummmm.... I am sure I have more.

May brings some teenagers also... I need to go through the coops.
Anyone need hatching eggs.... I can bring them also. Otherwise I doubt I will bother packing them up.

I finally have something growing in my makeshift herb garden. Not sure what it is, as I planted 3 types of seeds in the hopes something would grow. (I have a black thumb, it's terrible)

This is our first successful (so far) batch of tomatoes in the past three years. I think it's because we've basically left them alone. My mom can grow anything but tomatoes lol

Has anyone else ever had a kleptomaniac cat? This is one of our strays we picked up, Tiger but I call her Stinker

She steals everything and I do mean everything. She has even stolen the drain from my bathroom sink before and carried it to the next room like a dead mouse.
