I just found one of my girls barely alive!!! I am kicking myself for not looking around the neighbor's by the pond. She was in a bush struggling. Most of her neck is done, muscle and skin is no longer there. She's drinking and got her to take a couple of bites of food... but she really is drinking as much as she can.

Didn't look as bad when I went to wrap her neck up until I realized the skin isn't attacked between her body and neck.

I have it wrapped up with a sock and ace bandage covered in Vaseline and Neosporin because I don't have bluekote here. I'm hoping for the best, and going to try to fight for her because she's my favorite and my husband's little buddy. I may just have to be ready to let go.

But I will have a 22 before this is over!!!

Yes, I will be there. I can cook....pot roast? lol

Your cooking is always good!! Just remember you were the one who got me to eat pork for the first time in over a decade (I honestly can't remember when the last time was...lol). I spent the morning baking some "cake mix cookies" as I did NOT have enough eggs to make my death by chocolate chocolate chip cookies!! Seems DH and I have been giving away all the eggs and it turns out...if I want to bake something, I kinda need those eggs!! HAHA. Oops!!

I have a colicky baby today

so not much has ben done around the house or with the chickens. I desperately need to put more shavings down and rake the coop (perhaps find a few buried eggs?!?) but DD2 just wants to be held and cuddled. I am hoping she is NOT teething as it is WAY TOO early...and I heard an old wives tale that if a baby starts teething before 6 months it means another one is on the way!!

LOL. So I am off to cuddle and walk the house (not to mention drinking some Chamomile tea). Have a great day everyone!!

I don't think you would want to put blue kote on such an open wound any way. That is awful and so sorry it has happened. I hope she makes it

LONG 4 DAYS!!!!!! I'm exhausted! all moved in got the new chicken pen together and got them moved in. I left the gf in the house to get the unpacking "started" and I'm occupying myself with things outside.

JD: the EE you were gonna get from me is no longer alive =( before we moved I took down alot of the chicken wire thru the garden and I guess she got out and into the neighbors yard.....with the big angry dog.

MEG: I have a light brahma roo and he needs a home......I was thinking maybe you had a pen that was empty and I could get him maybe 2 hens and buy all the food and what not.....I hate to see him go because he was a B-day present. I dunno...blah.....my body and brain are worn out from moving
Well its ok accidents happen!

You will be surprised how resilient ducks are. Keep the wound gobbed with Neosporin. when it starts to dry up get some SWAT, that will keep the flies off.
I had a duck that got frost bite on his feet, the feet fell off !!! He lived a peg-leg life for 3-4 more years.

One of my runners that survived this last attack has punctures in her neck and chest...she is doing better today then yesterday.

Wow... we're going into super quarentine mode together I think. I am so happy to here yours is pulling through. You needed a break after all this. Did you get the predator, or have any ideas on what to do?

On this Pekin, I can't believe I can see her esophagus and everything and she's still going. She was just eating really well. Long as I soak the food she'll take 3-4 bites and then some water and then more food. I am really worried about infection. So I'm praying!

A co-worker suggested putting some chicken or duck parts into a live catch cage tonight and maybe I'll catch the danged thing that did this. I will then be able to put it down. But the live traps I see are only big enough for raccons when I was at tractor supply. Do you think one of those could fit a coyote (though I guess it could be a fox)? I think I may take the time to set up a trap tonight. It's come back for at least a week and several good meals, I doubt its giving up because the duck got away.

I'm also thinking of getting those solar nite eye? I keep reading pretty good things, most the complaints are the ones that say they don't work in shaded areas... but we're all sun so not worried about that.

I have leg traps and live catch traps out. I am 99% sure that it is a fox, based on the foot prints. She is so dang smart. She digs a whole next to the leg traps, sets them off and eats the food. Also gets the food from the live trap.

The kits were caught weeks ago with leg traps, had to set 3 at a time in front of the den. They weren't as smart. Mama sat in the field and barked.

I wish she would just move on.... I know she won't until there is nothing left.

Thinking on electric fence or livestock guardian. I think fox will just dig right under the fence and not sure there is enough room in the barnyard for a LGD or donkey etc.. I will have to fence in a large pasture and just lock up in the barnyard at night.

**** Beth, that is one smart fox!

I'm sorry you are having to go to such large extents to try to keep everyone secure since the fox won't move on. I am going to try to borrow a trap from my friends mom who has one she used for foxes. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and try to set it out tomorrow night. Then we'll see what we got that has caused me so much trouble!
