North Carolina

They are about 13 weeks old now.

I am leaning towards the top picture to be a rooster....but they are young and tricky to sex and slow to mature. Look for the hackle & saddle feather to get pointy...then you will know for sure.

Hatching going on here today! One of my bantams is out, and one of the Black English Orpingtons from Beth. One of the Barred Olive Eggers is pipped.

Happy day. Births make days happy ones.

Thanks so much, Beth! These will make a nice addition to my flock!

Hatching here today too..... they are RF, CSB & SC eggs. This is the best kind of hatch for me. I get the joy of hatching and the chicks go home with them. So no increase in my flock.

AMy, I agree with Beth. That's why I was wondering age, I didn't see the saddle feathers in yet? That's a tell tale sign!

I wish I was hatching or having a busy chicken day here, but other then caring for Lily (attacked duck from last week who is recovering VERY nicely), looks like I'll be canning again today. I have a big bbq and fireworks thing at a friend's house tonight, then tomorrow a play date, and another fireworks bbq thing here (which no one even told me about until today!!! UGH!).

I wish it would actually cool down though... looks like upper 90's all week. Not much going to be happening in the garden I suppose.

Scott

Another Lavender chick hatched, from egg marked FP .
The eggs are EE, FP and a few of the BIG brown eggs. I mark those "S" for Scott

A couple of Turkey eggs...don't look good for them. A few Red Golds due end of week....
A chick from "Wolfie" egg just hatched.
I have some fluffy EEs of yours, hatched right around the time the ladies left. Also have a huge black rooster chick that hatched a couple weeks ago from one of your big brown eggs.

Your brooder will be overrun when the the crew gets home.

Actually...the older chicks are already outside and the fluffy EEs will move out tonight. So brooder will be 1/2 overrun.
