I am also looking forward to lower temps! And so are all the critters, I'm sure! No WCA for me today, but I should be up for it next weekend if the temps are where they're looking like they're going to be.

Hey, we haven't gotten an update from CSB or RF in a bit! WHERE ARE YOU? You are missed!

We have been contemplating the re-arrangements we're going to be doing. I picked up two kennels yesterday. They were advertised as 6 x 10 x 6, but they are 7.5 x 12.5 x 6. And we already had a 10 x 10 x 4 stored. The current plan is to make a cattle panel arch over the short one (which we've done before to tarp for a lambing pen), and then cover it with chicken wire, and use it for pheasants. They are mostly ground birds, so the height is for me to walk in. 10 x 10 should work for a pair or trio, I hope. The taller ones...one will likely end up with the Silver Phoenix pair in it, and the other might get divided in two sections for bantams. Until we decide, the bantams will rotate in it, after we put a house and perches and such inside and roof them both. Probably line them up on the pasture fence beside the barn, where they'll get some shade from the building and a tree. Still need shadecloth. And some fox protection! They won't get set up for a bit, as hubby leaves on a business trip tomorrow, and the day after he gets back he leaves on another. Eventually. One baby step at a time.

Hi All,

Haven't posted in a bit but...

6 of my 12 barred rock eggs hatched! 1, Elvis, died right away (fell into bowl I had in bator for humidity and drowned, will NEVER NEVER NEVER do that again... so sad. Me and my 10yr old daughter were a mess) 2,The Colonel and Pip, are a little weak, but 3 , Daisy, Lily, and Joy, are super strong and happy. For my first hatch I'm pleased. I have 20 duck eggs coming this week... If anyone wants baby ducks let me know. I'm just going to hatch them, enjoy them, and relocate them. Wish my dogs were more accepting of my feather friends.

Stay cool today.... the heat is insane. My 2, month old Americana's are sitting on ice packs and eating watermelon with a fan on them. To hot for hubby to finish coop. Its almost done, so birds are still on porch in a rabbit cage. I let them out a few times a day when I have my 2 dogs and 2 cats secure in the house. Cant wait for them to have their own pad.

Any advice on when and how to introduce the babies to the older chickens? thanks

Well... we did not go to WCA today.... too dag-blamed hot! But I did read an article on craigslist about them... tsk tsk
I saw this coming a mile away...

I love going to WCA but I am going to have to agree with the author of this post.... as hot as it has been..... WCA should make some changes or just close their doors on days like today.
