North Carolina

This has nothing to do with chickens, but since I feel my BYC'ers know EVERYTHING, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Anyone in/around the Johnston County know where we could get a few truck loads of wood shaving/clippings from all of the trees that are being trimmed - preferably for free or little costs?? Anyone know where I could go to start looking?!? We have an orchard that is in desperate need of some TLC!! Guess I'd better start looking at the wanted ads for a truck to transport all this stuff too!! LOL. Thank you in advance!!

I think I have the car cleaned out from the trip, power was out for awhile yesterday evening. Got 2 broodies for sure, lost Peepers and Ditto (my 2 cross beaks) also lost 2 of Toms 3 babies and the last one is sick along with 2 of the pure rp babies. Lost 8 other birds while I was gone, and seen the bad chicken sitter driving yesterday

But in good news, I have 6 silkie babies and 2 frizzled babies, and some Peeper babies

Hi All,

Been very busy the past few months getting ready for and having knee replacement surgery. Now 2 weeks out and doing rehab. I am trying to catch up with forum and all the goings on. I will be on leave from work for at least the next 5 to 6 weeks and most likely on line for most of that time.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Everyone is released and fed, and The Boys are waiting for their breakfast to cool down. I must go to work today. Part of me is excited to see the school year closing in, and the other part of me is most definitely not. But I'll be ready regardless.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Big thanks to the langdon's for their hospitality yesterday and showing us all their gorgeous birds! Got home and got the eggs under "little red" and she took right to them. I guess we're gonna have to change her name to "momma red" after this! THANKS AGAIN hope everyone stays cool today 110* heat index! YIKES!

I'm having issues posts on BYC for the last 2 days. For some reason it goes all funny. Its even worse when I try to quote... in fact, when I hit submit I don't even know if this will show up or not? LOL

This had been a rough week, I've had lots of harvesting and canning to do and LOTS of late night. Not to mention I took on extra hours at work this week. I would complain I NEED sleep, but its been harder for my husband. He started a new job on Monday, he had to be there at 5am. He didn't get home until 5:30 that night. The next day he had to be there at 10am, and didn't get home from work until 5am on Wednesday. Then Wed he had to be at work at 11am and he didn't get home last night until Midnight. He was out the door back to work at 6am. I've maybe seen him for about 15 minutes total this week. He was scheduled to work Saturday, but we planned a yard sale, so he managed to get someone else who didn't get the crazy job this week to take up Saturday. I guess his hours are the 'norm' for them so they felt bad his first week went this way and someone jumped in to help him out. Other then that, this job is looking more promising the the one he just left.

The broilers I got from Sunday are doing FABULOUS! They've already cleared 1 row in the garden down to the bare dirt, and I've moved them over to clear out around the green bean tee pees. Hubby is thrilled to see they are working out well, and will help me clean them once they are finished off and we'll have to get more soon so the garden is ready for fall. I think some of the birds need another 3 weeks, but most of them will be ready by next weekend for sure.

I'm planning a fall gardening class and I would like it to be August 5th (or Aug 12th) from 10:30am to 1pm. I just have to see who's interested. Long as I can get 6 people I'll do it. I have a lot to get ready out there, and a LOT of hands on stuff... more so then the spring class we had at the end of Feb. Amazingly, living in NC, we get to do a LOT in the fall in winter most other people miss out on getting to do. I really do focus the classes on our zone.... which was changed by the USDA this year! Some of you are now in Zone 8a while the rest of us are barely in zone 7b. So we can all pretty much garden like we're in 8a. Isn't that exciting! I've always done things like zone 8, and now I have the USDA backing me up so I'm not crazy! Hahahaha

Let me know if you are interested in coming, and if the date doesn't work or the times are an issue... let me know. I am flexible and if several people want it later or earlier or what not we'll figure it out. It'll be $25 for the class, but if you prepay to hold your spot with paypal, its only $20 if paid by 8/3/12
