So I just found some squirrels inside my coop area eating my feed any ideas on how to stop them my coop area is open during day so the girls can free range.

Today has been a busy, mainly because a massive tree limb crushed a part of the dog yard fence, freeing 4 out of 5 of my dogs :th o well all are safe at home now.
Got word this morning from a friend, they were out hunting last week, and a beautiful white and black turkey just strutted up to them. My friend grabbed and emailed me today to inform that I'll be getting Tuesday… O great co……HEY WAIT, I never said I wanted it! O well, any ideas what kinda turkey is white with black spots/or stripes? :idunno
Another friend who lives up the road, brought me a 2 day old muscovy baby, its mama and siblings got killed. The mother is/was black with a white head and breast. And the daddy is gray right now but was white in the spring & summer. Any ideas what color they are?

We got rid of the rooster just to make sure everything was alright and I go outside this morning earlier than usual. And guess what I hear about two or three houses down....... Aa LOUD rooster. I'm beginning to think it wasn't mine being loud.

I can sit on the porch and listen to our roosters crow all day

Hi everyone!

I've been running around like the proverbial headless chicken, so I've missed coming here to see what everyone's up to. After looking at the number of posts I've missed, I don't think I'm going to catch up soon!

My machining classes are almost over - we finish October 31st and I am SO ready to be done with this. Of course, then I have to find a job! Please keep your fingers crossed that I get a job right away! Our landlord has been very understanding, and letting us pay less these last few months while I've been at school and we've been trying to survive on my husband's (pitiful) teacher's paycheck, but we've been robbing Peter to pay Paul just to get by and keep the important things turned on.

My mom came to stay with us for ten days earlier this month, which added to the general craziness. She makes fun of our chickens (she grew up on a ranch in WY, and her job was collecting eggs and picking out dinner), but she definitely appreciated the endless supply of fresh eggs!

Our chickens officially rock! The seven girls routinely give us at least 6 eggs a day - and sometimes as many as nine or eleven! They are always happy to see me, and they come running up to me when I go outside during their free-range time. They're so cute I couldn't even get upset that when our strawberry plants FINALLY started giving us strawberries a couple of weeks ago, the girls ate them ALL!

My oldest son ships out for Navy Basic training on Halloween. They've accepted him into the Nuke Tech program, and he's very excited. Boot camp happens in Illinois, at Great Lakes - I sure hope they give him some long underwear! He's not allowed to take ANYTHING with him - the Navy even ships back his underwear when they send back the clothes he wears up there.

Also, I've opened an ETSY shop! It's kind of an experiment - I had made a bunch of things for our church to sell at the Ramseur Fall Festival this year, and at the end of the day yesterday I had some left over. Come on by and visit - it's never too early to shop for Christmas! LOL http://www.etsy.com/shop/Homepride

I sure hope I get more time to keep up with you guys after my classes end! Have a great week, everyone!

I have an interesting bit of news. I bought a dozen Pullets a month ago and the Bantam Roo flew the Coup before I got him inside. A friend and I tried our best to catch him but couldn't. I live in a neighborhood that has a lot of Woods and each of us has a large piece of land so there was no telling where he went. This morning, he showed up in the yard out of nowhere and he is now roosting with the Girls in the Coup. Guess I can't call it a Hen house anymore, LOL.
