Welcome to all the new folks! Jump in feet first...folks here will catch you!

I've been in a baking mood today. Made a batch of oatmeal/cranberry/walnut cookies, then a double batch of molasses/raisin/spice cookies, then came back and started up a double batch of the first ones. I'm still working on them!

I will be popular at work tomorrow, I will!

The Boys were whining at the front door earlier, which is rare. They know to go to the mudroom door to come in. Turns out Bob the turkey had gotten in the yard and was guarding the back door. See, people come out that door, and they often have food, so obviously the dogs don't belong there and the turkeys do! It's so simple!

Of course, Bob doesn't think the dogs belong anywhere, or at least anywhere he could be instead. He loves tormenting the Boys. Yes, we could stop it but honestly, it's a hoot to three mastiffs run from a tom turkey, tails tucked.

Thank You. Im new to all of this. We did get 6 chickens and a rooster but the guy that sold them to use had to come get them back because they were sick and it was just too much for me. So we are starting over when the coop is cleaned and ready.
Sorry to hear that. be very careful who you get birds from, and it won't hurt to go and look at where they have been living to see the conditions.

:lau I find it funny when large dogs tuck tail and run from chickens/turkeys. My neighbor has a mastif great dane mix weighing in 180lbs . Well their daughter often comes down to play with my girls and last week she brought him with her. That dog tucked tail and run from my 1.5lbs cochin rooster! :gig

Good morning folks

Good Morning, Everyone!

RF, I will bake when I come to WCA. If nobody is coming (in which case neither will I!), I'll make sure to bake for the Dec 8 show in Smithfield. I must be part Hungarian Grandmother, as I love to feed people! If there was a way for me to bring hot food to everyone, I'd likely be doing that! Homemade French onion soup for all!

Less than a week now before the first chicks arrive! Woohoo! The place will start feeling normal again soon!

I did discover when cleaning out Juvenile Detention that the boot covers I got for biosecurity purposes also serve to keep my shoes clean and the dust out of my brace mechanism. Well, one of them. It doesn't cover the one at the knee, but that one is in less danger anyway. So, an alternative use for those that I should have already thought of. I tucked a couple in my car for rain booties, since I can't wear those either. Now I won't have to squish about in wet shoes on rainy days!

Today are the last wet labs for the semester. The end is closing in fast. In a month we'll be in finals! Seems like the older I get, the faster the years go by. What's up with that? I want my childhood back when every summer lasted a lifetime.

Off to pack boxes of cookies into my car to take to work. I'll have to stash some in my office...I think they're lunch today.....

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Hollow, there is nothing wrong with you wanting to feed everyone......... If there is, then there is something wrong with me and the woman who did most of the job of raising me. She always offered a beverage to guests, and fed them well. She was the one who first taught me to cook. Luckily I learned a lot about healthy eating, or all that fat would have killed me by now, but bless her soul, She did right by me, and I learned so much from her. We must always remember to feed the belly, the mind, and the soul. This time of year I think of her often, so let us all remember the important things in our lives, and take the time out to enjoy them.

It will be thanksgiving soon, and many are doing without, so remember how blessed we all are, in on way or another.

OH!!!! and those turkeys should be afraid... very.....very.....afraid...

Have a great day everyone!

To the previous parents of Emmadine the chicken, she is one mean bug eating machine! She was the source of great entertainment in the greenhouse yesterday, and I think the hubby likes her. Crickets kept getting into the broccoli and leafy stuff, so he hand fed her one, and the he and Chris watched the show, They said when they uncovered some she got them all. I don't know if she is warming up to the other birds in there, but she does seem happy.

Hollow.... I think we have the same ship date for chicks.... I can't wait!!! I am like a little kid waiting...
