to Hollowoakfarm and others who order online.
I had some chicks shipped (first time) to me from MYPETCHICKEN and they came to ok and all. (Nov 5th)
My question is.. I know the shipping is high and worth it, but....
That does raise the price of chickens skyhigh.
My flock was getting older and the new babies are turning out to be more boys than girls, which is why I ordered online.
Does the extra money make it worth it knowing you most likely have girls????
Are you ordering birds you can not get locally???
or is it knowing you will have new chicks now and not have to wait til spring/summer???

Out of my hatched chicks it looks like a 75/25, boys over girls.
Still not really sure on the last nine but from what I have learned here, I figure half maybe more.

I thinks its worth knowing they are girls, and getting breeds I can't find elsewhere. I order from ideal because their shipping is way cheaper(I think 11-15$ for small orders) and you can order 25$ worth of chicks/guineas/ducks instead of 25 of them.

Same reasons I order from them. I can order the sex I want, the quantity I want, and since they are inspected I have a lower risk of disease than getting them from an unknown in a Craigslist ad. And the hatchery birds are usually more prolific layers than the show birds, so I want both.

I called Ideal to ask what was up, and what got shipped. Only half the order...the half they originally told me they'd be unable to fulfill...26 Buff Orpington pullets. So I'll keep some and sell some off, since I topped off my other order with RIR pullets. Late spring POL BO pullets will go well at WCA.

Hmmmm....lots of abbreviations tonight, eh?

Thanks all for your input. mmm, Ideal, I may have to check them out when and if I order online chicks again. I liked MPC but the shipping killed me, but then I guess most have high shipping.

I know I haven't been here in a while, been very ill (three trips to the ER and 30 days of antibiotics, 2 iv infusions of antibiotic...I am so over this!) and then a 25th anniversary cruise, school is winding down and work is very stressful. But other than that same old same old, and my babies are doing great! We got our first eggs yesterday!! Probably had a few more but one of the dogs has discovered the open nesting box...that will be remedied this weekend... and we found an egg shell in the yard

My BO's haven't started laying yet, these are from what are supposed to be Ameracauna's. I don't care what they are, I think they are beautiful and Elvis is very proud of his girls!

Good Morning all you other Happy People!

I'm hoping to get a call this morning about those chicks. No mail tomorrow, although if they're working, they'll call me in for pickup. Problem is, I have to go to Georgia tomorrow. I had a dream last night that I was halfway there when the PO called me for pickup and I had to turn around, come home and set up chicks, and then turn around and drive once again.

Today, please, Post Office!

Hubby and I are going shopping today for our Christmas present to ourselves, since we are both off work.

A new bedroom set with a king size bed. (Four dogs will not fit in our queen!

) I was figuring up how old our current set is and we bought it when DD was 8 months old. She turned 30 last month. We think we can splurge on a new one now. This one will go to the guest room, and the guest room stuff will go elsewhere.

she is supposed to hatch today or tomorrow so it'll probably be friday or saturday before I check her......I wanted to be surprised and didn't candle the eggs this time. But I will let you know and THANKS in advanced
