The colorful one that was just posted - I have never seen something so vibrantly colorful! Just gorgeous!!! Thanks.

Oh, it is a hatch day here - my first of 2013. So far 2 of my Rhodebars have hatched and are pullets!! 4 others have pipped so we are waiting to see.......

Its not white though, it most definitely blue.

Alot of blues will be "splotchy" when young. Especially the lighter blues. They do grow out of it.

This was "Smoke" before I sold him to a good home. He was in his last molt to adult feathers at 7.5 months old. You can he still had some splotchy coloring on his back in the 'teenage' feathering.

Wow! That is an absolutely gorgeous bird. What kind is it?

Yes, as Coopscoop said he is a soon to be 2 year old red golden. The hens are not so colorful, but pretty in their own right. The males don't reach full color til 2 years old. Which is why I haven't sold any males yet but I need to sell one so I thought I would give the bycer's first chance at him before others. heres some pictures of the hens when they were young, they haven't changed much, just longer tails.

I have raised lots of BBBS Marans and I've never had one be born and feather out black and then turn blue. Is this common and I just never had one :/ ? All my blues, blue coppers, and blue splashes were born blue or white with splash at hatching and feathered out the same color (or close to it) as they were born :D . I have had a couple of really nice dark blues, but I could still tell they were blue at hatching :p . Very interesting! I wish there was a fast forward button so I could see him grown! :D

Good morning folks

I don't get home until it's nearly dark so
not much can get done then.......I so look

Good Morning, Happy People!

Yesterday was a dreadful work day, so I'm hoping today is better! It'll be long, though. Tuesdays and Thursdays will take some adjusting to. The chair decided I needed a break between classes, which makes my day so spread out it's killing me. I'll have to remind my helpful boss to consult me on what he thinks is best for me! (He's also a friend, and he really is trying to be helpful!)

No news on the chicken front, except I'll have eggs going to lockdown on Monday. These are the ones that the lovely Post Office took ten days to send Priority. There are dark eggs layers and Amers in the batch, which I don't have the equipment to candle, but some of the others are certainly showing development. Unless I can see for sure it's a clear or it's leaking, I'll be sending them all to lockdown, just in case. Under the circumstances, if I get even a 30% hatch, I'll be happy. Of course, I'd be happier with more! I'll reorder eggs from the same source once I know what I've got in this batch. Cross your crossables!

Enjoy the day, everyone. I'm off to torment....uh, I mean teach....the Youth of America. I WILL make them like biology before this semester is over!
