Ask bhep (Beth). There are pics on here of Silkies I have gotten from her. Healthy birds! She had some a while back and may be hatching more. You never know???

Just dropping in. Little guy is driving me crazy today.

Good Morning and Happy Valentine's Day to my Chicken Peeps!!

Hollow - I am SO sorry you have had to deal with this! I have actually been thinking about switching banks because ours is SO far away (the closest one is 35 minutes away) and have heard good things about 1st Citizen!! I'm praying everything gets straightened out for you and quickly!!

Chicken news: the chicks have been allowed grass time the past few days and ALL but 5 have decided they'd rather bunk with the biggies!!

DH had such a hard time locking them up last night as they wanted to go into the juvi pen...I responded, why not let them?!? LOL, he was like, Oh!

Still doing research on Freedom Rangers as the minimum order is 25 chicks and I am not sure even if we sell a few, if we can handle/process/afford to grow all of them!! I heard they do not require as much food as Cornish, since they are capable of free ranging and such, but I might check out doing fermented feed for them (will need someone to walk me through that... <ahem, Alex, ahem>) to see if they grow better and with "less" feed! I wonder about Jersey Giants...I know they are DP....maybe they'd be a good investment too?!? ACK...now I am being attacked by chicken math!!

Found a recipe on how to make your own ACV so I am (next week) going to try it out!! I need to make some applesauce for the runt anyway, so it works out perfectly!! I will keep you posted on how it works (or not) in case anyone is interested!! I'm hoping it works as it would be nice to have an "endless" supply ... once our apple trees actually start (IF) producing!!

WELCOME to the new folks!!

Have a great day everyone!! Remember, you are precious to someone!!

So have a happy Valentine's Day!!

I'm happy to help with fermented feed. I would stay away from the Jersey Giants and a meat bird. I think you'll be happy with the next batch that hatches from your birds. I also have some broiler crosses in the grow out and more in the incubator that are good to keep in the pens and big enough to eat. They are averaging 5lbs by 12 weeks or so!! The best part is that they LAY!!

Good morning NC!
Finally sunny and I;m loving it.
My chicks are now just over a week old. Their wing and tail feathers are showing. love to see them chase each other around for a piece of spinach. Think they are getting use to me. Try to take some time each evening when I get home from work to talk and sit with them. They aren't as skiddish as before. They try taking the spinach from my hand and one (I've named marble for her coloring - I know she may change in color later) is sitting in my hand for short spells without squirming to get down right away.
Took more pictures, but forgot my camera so will have to download tomorrow when I'm off from work.
Putting some more work into the coop this weekend. Need more materials to start the "run" and need some blocks to level the coop as it is on a slight slope. Have to do little at a time as money becomes available:)
Have a great Valentine's !

I have 2 dozen assorted hatching eggs, ready to go. The assortment includes, LF buff orps, LF blue Orps, LF easter eggers and Bantam Frizzle cochins. They are are nice quality birds, not from a hatchery, some are from show/breeding stock. 35$. I do not ship.
