So sorry to hear about your cross beak baby.....I remember seeing her. I've got 2 of them now. One of the blue americaunas that I hatched had a scissor beak. My other scissor beak, Michelle, is a year old now and doing great - she is even laying eggs. I have to feed her treats in a separate bowl that is deep enough for her to get the millet and meal worms but she knows exactly where to go for treats! I feed fermented feed which is really a lot easier for her to eat since it is wet. However, she will also eat the pelleted food so I keep it deep enough for her to eat it just in case she wants it instead of the fermented feed. The younger scissor beak is about 6 weeks old now and seems to be doing fine. I feed her the same way I feed Michelle, the yearling. I do file their beaks periodically but they act just like the others other than the beaks being crossed. So, for those who end up with a cross beak - don't lose hope. It can work out....Sooo sad today! My little "scissor beak"chick died last night. She was a lot smaller that the other 6 girls. She seemed tobe doing well and never bothered the other girls. When I came home from work I checked and counted the girls. The little one was missing. When I opened the coop, she was just laying there near the opening to the pen. There was no blood so I don't think she was attacked by the others. She might have gotten laid on by accident. Well, guess she's better off. She struggled so much to eat and drink with her beak like it was. I am using my DH computer so I can't download a pic of little"scissor". Previously posted a pic though.
On another note - got some compost to put in the garden. Got it all raked in and ready for my friend to come by to till it for me. Plants to come![]()
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
