My girls will be 19 weeks at the end of this week.
I have some 16 weeks and have to keep myself from checking the nesting boxes daily. I know I have a month to go but I am exited. My other girls are getting a little old and a few have stopped laying. Oh by the way, anyone got any good ideas on how to find out who is laying and who isnt? I cant stand out there all day to see who goes into the boxes and who doesn't. Plus a couple of the girls are tricky, they go into the boxes but dont lay. I thought about putting a motion sensor camera in there but maybe there is a easier way that Im not thinking of. I hate to send any of the girls to the retirement home that are still laying.

I've been wondering the same thing. Mine are all the same age and I know they won't all start on the same day. I guess I'll figure it out, but I'll probably google it to see if I can find any info.

I have begun to name all my girls, it's a slow process because I want to be able to tell them apart. One of the girls has taken a liking to my DH. She is so calm and comes running to the door once she sees him. I've named her, Mabel. My two RIRs are very feisty. I think I will name them, Nellie and Bessie. I like the idea of naming them old-fashioned names. I think it adds a classic touch to having chickens. I still have to name 3 more I have a list of names that I want to use, but now I just have to figure some identifying trait or mark on them.
