I have seen the lavender orps at the cedar creek flock swap and the WCA. It just depends on what is brought by the people who bring stuff to sell.

Tonight is a livestock supply auction, going to held once a month. Feeders, nest boxes, coops etc.... anything but animals.
Every Sun. is the animal auction. Chickens ..anything with feathers, goats, pigs, small animals. A bunch of us go just to hang out . We are always the group in the far corner down at the bottom.
There is a flock swap this Sat. http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/grd/3771963140.html
I know a few of us will be there. I will have a bunch of chicks and hatching eggs for sale.
Oh, there are plenty of cougar here! I saw one 2 years ago that was the size of a german shepherd - BIG! They are VERY elusive. You rarely see them. Then, a friend called us and saw one about a mile from our house crossing a road. At that time, my husband FINALLY believed me - that I HAD seen a cougar down at our stream that runs along the back of one of our pastures. That is when he agreed that we could get a livestock guardian dog! It was that, and the fact that we woke up to a coyote about 30 yards from the house just standing there looking at our Australian Shepherd barking like mad at him.
We've had Banjo (italian maremma) about a year now and have not seen a coyote (or cougar) since then! We have even had bear in Greensboro before! Crazy!!

I just saw there is a North Carolina chicken thread
We moved down here a few years ago, as my husband is stationed at Fort Bragg. We live in Fayetteville, right on the Raeford line.
We started keeping chickens less than a year ago and I LOVE it!!!!
I love seeing how many people down here are keeping chickens!
