North Carolina

I have seen the lavender orps at the cedar creek flock swap and the WCA. It just depends on what is brought by the people who bring stuff to sell.

Every Sun. is the animal auction. Chickens ..anything with feathers, goats, pigs, small animals. A bunch of us go just to hang out . We are always the group in the far corner down at the bottom.

There is a flock swap this Sat. http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/grd/3771963140.html

I know a few of us will be there. I will have a bunch of chicks and hatching eggs for sale.

Any chance you have lavender orpingtons? Or Lavernder or blue anything but bantams???

Hello Shaun, where in Iredell are you located? I live off Buffalo Shoals past Joe Lingles store. Welcome to this thread. It seems like there are a few of us from Iredell on here.

Oh, there are plenty of cougar here!  I saw one 2 years ago that was the size of a german shepherd - BIG!  They are VERY elusive.  You rarely see them.  Then, a friend called us and saw one about a mile from our house crossing a road.  At that time, my husband FINALLY believed me - that I HAD seen a cougar down at our stream that runs along the back of one of our pastures.  That is when he agreed that we could get a livestock guardian dog!  It was that, and the fact that we woke up to a coyote about 30 yards from the house just standing there looking at our Australian Shepherd barking like mad at him.

We've had Banjo (italian maremma) about a year now and have not seen a coyote (or cougar) since then!  We have even had bear in Greensboro before!  Crazy!!

Also in NC. Several years ago there were a lot of people loosing calves, goats, pets , chickens etc. my dog got me up at midnight to go Out and not the I have to potty out but she was raging. She treed spmething. But as it was running through the pasture it hit the cross fence and screamed something aweful. Did I mention it was fairly new Hi Tencil 6 strands of ppwered fence. Then people started talking about seeing a cougar. Eventually the DNR officer told a friend that 6 pair of Cougars had been released in Cleveland, Rutherford, and Gaston counties. They were released to help control the deer population. The officer also told our friend to shoot the bury them and keep the quiet about it. They are protected and getting caught killing one or having any parts of one guaranteed come with jail time. By the end of the winter there was no more mention of lost livestock or cougar sightings.

Hi everyone!

I just saw there is a North Carolina chicken thread :)

We moved down here a few years ago, as my husband is stationed at Fort Bragg. We live in Fayetteville, right on the Raeford line.

We started keeping chickens less than a year ago and I LOVE it!!!!

I love seeing how many people down here are keeping chickens!
Welcome aboard! There are a couple other people on here from Fayetteville. Whoo Hoo!

So it was worth it, I take it! Tell us!

Don't think I'll make it. The cracked rib is not comfy. However, I don't think it will bother me nearly as long as my doc thinks it will. I'll be back as soon as possible. :)
