North Carolina

I'll be there! Bringing turkey poults, a young pair of Speckled Sussex, fresh from my incubator Buff Orpingtons, a GLW and an EE. And stuff for Alex. :D

And cookies. ;)

Anyone know the dosage for injectable Tylan 50 for chickens?
I've googled it and found several different recommendations, and nothing on the packaging for chickens.
Also, how often do you administer?
In my futile attempt to save this last barred rock I haven't been able to bring myself to cull, I thought I would change up the meds since the oxytetracycline injections don't seem to have done anything....

If I remember right for oral Tylan 50 it was
1/4 cc for bantams and 1/2 cc for large birds.
It may be the same for injections. Once the birds
are back to healthy you may want to worm them
but only after they have been clear of illness for
at least a month. Good luck.

So I spent my morning framing out a new chicken coop! Not too bad for a city girl that almost failed shop class!!! I have a frame for the roof, but need another pair of hands to get them installed. It was no joke building this thing without help or blue prints. Made me feel productive though, hope the chickens like it!
Looks good! I wish I could build stuff! I had back surgery that restricts a lot of what I can do :( sucks because I'm 28, should be able to so a lot more!!

Paralysis with Tylan?

My poor chicken, she just can't win.
When the oxytetracycline wasn't working I switched it to tylan injections. I read online people recommended to inject it into the breast, but when I felt around all I could feel was her crop and ribs. Afraid I would hit the wrong spot and make it worse, I found a thick part on her thigh and put it in there (very shallow, just deep enough to not come back out).
As soon as I finished she started hopping around on one leg, and has been for the past few hours.
I remember reading somewhere chickens could have paralysis with injections, is it temporary?

Also, her legs (she's a barred rock so normally hers are yellow with some dark flushing in the front) are pinkish instead of yellow. I noticed this this morning before giving her meds so it's not a side effect of that. Wasn't sure if that could be a symptom for anything else.

Hope you all are enjoying this beautiful weekend!!!!

Spagetti is so fun! Today was the first time for our girls, and they all LOVED it!

We also covered another milestone for the introduction of the little girls to the big girls. We let them free range together for a couple of hours. They did pretty well, with minimal pecking. I think the same Leghorn is the one that picks a little. But overall, I think it went really well as I presume there will be some pecking among the birds no matter what. I am just glad there weren't any attacks. I think they will be ready to go in together in a couple more weeks when they are closer to the same size.

Hope everyone is enjoying their extended weekend because we sure are!

I am in Faison...But I do have fertile Muscovy eggs. I have 7 Lavender and 2 black . All babies have been lavender so far.

I will be seeing Beth tomorrow, so could bring eggs home for you to pick up tomorrow evening. I'm leaving town early Monday and will be gone all day, so they would need to be picked up Sunday evening.

Hi guys, sorry I have had to work all weekend, pretty much all day too. Guess I am going to have to withdraw my request for eggs for now. DH is not convinced we should hatch some yet. So when they go broody again, and I am sure they will, I will get some then. The Lavs/black sounds amazing! I will have to talk with you about them later on. And thank you for the wonderful offer Hollow, I appreciate it.
